Anjali House is a locally registered non-profit organisation providing free food, education, and healthcare to underprivileged former street children in Siem Reap. Created in 2006 as an umbrella project of the Angkor Photo Festival, Anjali House provides refuge, care and shelter for up to 110 children aged between 4 and 18 years old. All of them come from impoverished local families with previously little or no opportunity to attend public school and were encouraged to beg or work by scavenging for recyclable materials or selling souvenirs to tourists. We believe that no child should be forced to beg or work.
Anjali House covers the costs of public schooling for our students; offers free English, computer and arts classes; provides two meals a day; gives free healthcare in partnership with the Angkor Hospital for Children; and provides access to our social workers, who liaise with our students' families and public school teachers to ensure the wellbeing of the students in all facets of life. We also run a Young Adult Program for our older students, to assist them in the transition from school to further study, training or work.
Anjali House is a safe haven where children can find support, friendship and shelter from the hardships of everyday life in Cambodia - where kids can be kids, playing, learning, discovering their strengths, and having fun. Additionally, we provide them with skills to take into the workforce to give them an opportunity to create a brighter future for themselves.
