Help is a Four Legged Word, Canine Companions for Independence
Help is a four-legged word.
Founded in 1975, Canine Companions for Independence is a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships. Headquartered in Santa Rosa, California, Canine Companions is the largest non-profit provider of assistance dogs, and is recognized worldwide for the excellence of its dogs, and the quality and longevity of the matches it makes between dogs and people. The result is a life full of increased independence and loving companionship.
Canine Companions has five regional centers -- Santa Rosa, California, Oceanside, California, Delaware, Ohio, Medford, New York, and Orlando Florida. In addition, there is an office in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Canine Companions provides its assistance dogs and graduate services to Adults, Children and Veterans free of charge. More than 4,200 assistance dogs have been placed in the organization's history.
Canine Companions relies on private donations to train and place assistance dogs. Every contribution makes a difference for our organization. $5 can be applied to the purchase of dog food or dog toys for dogs in training at one of our centers.
