Rock, Paper, Scissors Children's Fund
Rock-Paper-Scissors Children's Fund is a U.S.-based non-profit dedicated to helping Vietnamese children and families in need.
Our goal is to provide learning opportunities for young students through our art and music programs, buying bikes for girls and supporting them through school, as well as providing support for women and families.
Established in 2012, Rock-Paper-Scissors Children's Fund was started by a mother of two children adopted from Vietnam. Wanting to give back to the birth country of her children, and believing in the importance of her daughters to know and experience the country and culture they came from, the Stevens Nerone family, along with Sara's partner, Patrick O'Brien, moved to Vietnam to work and volunteer in 2011-2012. The family volunteered through an existing non-profit called Aid for Kids, a U.S.-based foundation, and worked with their Vietnam program founder, Joy Degenhardt. Adopted from Vietnam during the U.S. war, Joy always had a dream to go back to the area of her orphanage and build a technical school to train young adults. The Stevens Nerone family worked closely with Joy to open the school and raise money to build a second building for classes.
After returning to the U.S., the family opened Rock-Paper-Scissors Children's Fund to continue support of Vietnamese children and families in need.
$5 provides one month support for one of our students, who because of their poverty level would never have the opportunity to study music or art. We provide instruments to each of our students and lessons twice a week. We provide an opportunity for kids to express themselves and develop their creativity.
We are working in three areas of Vietnam and some of our projects can be visited. Please email us at [email protected] and let us know your travel plans. We also have a Bikes for Girls program and suggest that if travelers would like to raise money for bikes, we can arrange a bike giving day for you to attend.
